As a long-standing transporter of passengers on the Ljubljanica, we offer you with the barge Barjanka various options to spend a part of your time on the river with us, which will surely remain in your fond memories. The Ljubljanica river and its banks hide various stories and a rich history, which enriches us and sometimes leaves us surprised, whether it’s just a tour of the city from the perspective of the river or sailing in the Ljubljanska Barje. Our specialty is that there is a guide on each of our sailings who will introduce you to the river, the city and its history in several languages.
Our permanent entry and exit point is at Dvorni trg (under the headquarters of the University of Ljubljana), but for organized groups we can also make other arrangements. Barčica Barjanka accommodates up to 36 people, has a sound system, two separate toilets, a ship’s kitchen and a ship’s bar.

History: Tromostovje is a complex of three bridges that connect Prešeren trg with Mestni trg and the old city center. The bridges were designed between 1929 and 1932 according to the plans of Jože Plečnik, a Slovenian architect. The central bridge was originally built in 1842 and was known as the French Bridge, in honor of Archduke Franz Charles.
Touristic importance: Tromostovje is one of the most recognizable symbols of Ljubljana, offering a wonderful view of the old town and the Ljubljana Castle. The bridges are a popular spot for photography and walks.
History: The Ljubljana Castle rises above the city and is one of the most important sights of Ljubljana. The first castle was built in the 11th century, and it got its present appearance in the 16th century. Throughout history, the castle has served various purposes, from a military fortress to a prison.
Touristic importance: Today, the castle is a cultural and tourist center where many events, exhibitions and concerts take place. It also offers exceptional panoramic views of the city and its surroundings.
History: The Dragon Bridge was built between 1900 and 1901 and is one of the first reinforced concrete bridges in Europe. The bridge was designed by Dalmatian Jurij Zaninović, and its characteristic dragons have become a symbol of Ljubljana.
Tourist importance: The bridge is an architectural gem of the Art Nouveau era and a popular tourist attraction. Taking photos with the kites is almost mandatory for visitors to the city.
History: Novi trg is one of the oldest markets in Ljubljana, which developed in the Middle Ages. Here were many important buildings and trading houses.
Touristic importance: Today, the square is known for its historical architecture and pleasant cafes and restaurants. It also offers a beautiful view of the Ljubljanica River and Ljubljana Castle.
History: The Butcher’s Bridge was completed in 2010 as part of a project to improve Ljubljanica and its surroundings. It was designed by architect Jurij Kobe and is known for its modern lines and artistic details.
Tourist Significance: The bridge has become popular for its distinctive love locks, which couples attach to the fence as a symbol of eternal love. The bridge connects Petkovškova embankment with Cankarjev embankment and is close to Tromostovje, which puts it in the center of tourist activity. There are also various sculptures on the bridge, created by the Slovenian sculptor Jakov Brdar, which further adds to its attractiveness.
The Butcher’s Bridge is perfectly located in a series of sights that you can see while driving along Ljubljanica, as it is located near Tromostovje and the covered market, which allows easy access to several important points of the city.
History: The Franciscan Church of the Annunciation was built between 1646 and 1660. The church is known for its distinctive pink facade and baroque style.
Tourist importance: The church is a popular tourist spot on Prešeren square. Its interior, painted with frescoes, is also worth a visit.
Old Bridge:
History: Stari most, also known as Mestni most, is one of the oldest bridges in Ljubljana. It was first mentioned in the 13th century. It has been rebuilt and renovated several times to withstand flooding and wear and tear.
Tourist importance: The bridge offers a wonderful view of the old town and the Ljubljana Castle. It is an important crossing for pedestrians and cyclists that connects different parts of the city.
Cobblers’ Bridge:
History: Šuštarski Most was originally a wooden bridge built in the Middle Ages. In 1931-1932, Jože Plečnik transformed it into its current stone form. The bridge got its name from the shoemakers (shuštarji) who had their workshops there.
Touristic significance: The bridge is one of the most beautiful and romantic in Ljubljana. Plečnik columns and handrails give the bridge a distinctive look that is popular with visitors.
Trnovo Quay:
History: Trnovski pristan was an important part of the city already in the Middle Ages, but today it is known for its beautiful walking paths along the Ljubljanica. Trnovski most is another Plečnik creation from 1932.
Tourist importance: The port is a popular destination for relaxing, walking and enjoying the river. It is also known for its many cultural events and cozy cafes.
Spica (Ljubljana’s Spica):
History: Špica was once an important junction of Ljubljanica and Gradaščica, but today it is a popular recreation area. Jože Plečnik also designed a boathouse in this area.
Touristic importance: Špica is an ideal place to relax by the water, with pleasant walking paths, a cafe and green areas. It is a popular destination for picnics and get-togethers.
National and University Library:
History: The library was built between 1936 and 1941 according to plans by Jože Plečnik. The building is an important example of modern architecture and a symbol of Slovenian cultural heritage.
Tourist importance: The library is an architectural gem, visited by both locals and tourists. The interior is decorated with Plečnik’s characteristic elements, such as staircases and light shafts.
